Let the Adventure Begin
It is no secret that I've spent this last stretch working 8 to 4:30, running errands, paying bills, cleaning my apartment, etc. etc. and well - you can have enough of some things. So I began thinking...what should I do? move to beautiful british columbia and do the same thing there? get a puppy? go back to school? It's true, there are a lot of options open, but the only one with any appeal to me includes watching active volcanoes spew molten lava, getting bitten by bugs the size of baby elephants, and sitting on the hood of my el comino eating tacos.
So, it is with no regrets that I will be ending the madness (along with the Friday-mails) and returning to writing new chapters in my imaginary book that found it's start in SE Asia two years ago. This segment will follow me through Central America -- Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, and finally Mexico.
Someday I will have a permanent address, a home phone number, and perhaps even a realistic grasp on life...but that's all for another day. These days I'm opting to explore lush rainforests, colourful street markets, and exotic beaches where I will spend entire afternoons arguing in broken spanish with the local salesmen over three pennies for some useless trinket that will do
nothing more then collect dust (and flood back memories) as it sits on a shelf in the next few places I live. The days in between destinations will be spent squished and sweating on crowded local buses while bags full of captive chickens roam freely at my feet and fuzz from the local radio station blares through the speaker at my ear.
It's like brussel sprouts - perhaps not for everyone - but for me, there really is something to waking up and wondering where I am and what awaits... already forgetting about yesterday, and not yet caring about tomorrow.
Sean and I leave the beginning of November, and so long as we can outrun the lazy-three-toed-sloths, we shall return in the spring unscathed.
